Ireland is a significant visa challenge for Ghanaians — an estimated 45% of applications are refused. The keys to success are bank-stamped financial evidence, a detailed cover letter, and clear proof that you're returning to Ghana. Ghanaians with prior UK or Schengen travel history are at a strong advantage.

Insider Tips
Go to visas.inis.ie and create an AVATS account. Complete the Short Stay 'C' application — select 'Visit' or 'Tourism'. Download, print, and sign the application summary at the end. Note your VFS transaction reference number.
Type a detailed cover letter explaining: your full itinerary, where you'll stay each night, who you'll visit, purpose of travel, and why you're returning to Ghana (job, business, family, property). This is one of the most important documents in your file.
Visit your bank branch and request 6 months of statements physically stamped by the bank. Do this within a week of your VFS appointment so they are current. Online printouts alone are not accepted.
Purchase travel insurance covering your full stay in Ireland, with at least EUR 30,000 medical coverage. Include the certificate in your document pack.
Go to visa.vfsglobal.com/gha/en/irl and book an appointment at the Accra VFS centre (Atlantic Towers, Airport City). Slots are typically available within 2–4 weeks. Book as early as possible.
Bring your complete document pack plus originals of everything and photocopies of all passport pages including blank pages. VFS takes your 10 fingerprints and photo (biometrics). Pay the EUR 60 visa fee (~GHS 792) plus VFS service fee. VFS forwards your file to the Irish Visa Office.
The 8–10 week clock starts when the Irish Visa Office receives your biometric data and documents. You will receive an email notification. Do not purchase non-refundable travel until you have a decision.
Return to VFS Accra to collect your passport once notified, or opt for courier return if you purchased a prepaid envelope. If refused, the fee is not refunded — read the refusal letter carefully and address the specific reason in any reapplication.
Ireland rejected 45% of applications. Avoid these mistakes:
Bank statements not physically stamped by the bank branch, or balances too low to support the trip duration. Inconsistency between payslips and bank deposits is flagged.
Fix: Get 6 months of bank-stamped statements from your branch. Balances should credibly cover EUR 50–100 per day of stay.
Application does not clearly demonstrate why the applicant will return — missing employment letter, no property documents, no family evidence.
Fix: Include employment letter, property documents, and family tie evidence. Your cover letter must explicitly state your ties and intent to return.
A handwritten, very short, or generic cover letter that doesn't explain the specific travel purpose and itinerary.
Fix: Type a detailed letter: full daily itinerary, accommodation details, visit purpose, and return reasons. Specific is always better.
