Bali and Indonesia are increasingly popular with Kenyan travellers — and Kenya is lucky enough to be on the VOA list, making access easy and affordable. At IDR 500,000 (~KES 3,650) it's one of the most accessible visa-required long-haul destinations. The one non-negotiable: your yellow fever certificate.

Key Warnings

  • Yellow fever vaccination certificate is MANDATORY for Kenyan passport holders entering Indonesia. Kenya is classified as endemic. Without the ICVP certificate, you face 6 days quarantine or deportation — regardless of your visa status.
  • The eVOA is single entry only. If you leave Indonesia and re-enter (e.g., a day trip to Malaysia from Bali), you'll need a new VOA or eVOA. Plan accordingly.
  • Bali Tourism Levy (IDR 150,000 / ~USD 9) is separate from the VOA fee. It applies only at Ngurah Rai/Bali — not at Jakarta or other airports.
  • Do not overstay your 30-day visa. The fine is IDR 1,000,000 (~USD 57) per overstay day, plus risk of deportation and a multi-year entry ban.

Insider Tips

  • Always pre-purchase the eVOA at evisa.imigrasi.go.id before travel. Bali VOA queues during peak season (July, August, December) can take 60–90 minutes. eVOA holders use a faster dedicated lane.
  • The All Indonesia app (allindonesia.imigrasi.go.id) replaced the paper immigration arrival card in October 2025. Complete it up to 3 days before arrival — it takes about 5 minutes and the QR code is scanned at the immigration desk.
  • Most Kenya–Bali flights connect through Nairobi–Dubai (Emirates), Nairobi–Doha (Qatar Airways), or Nairobi–Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia Airlines). Kuala Lumpur has short connection times to Bali — under 2 hours flight time.
  • If you plan to extend your stay beyond 30 days, visit the immigration office by day 25 — queues at popular immigration offices in Bali (Denpasar) and Jakarta can add delays.

Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Verify your yellow fever certificate

Before anything else: confirm you have a valid ICVP yellow fever certificate. Kenya is endemic — without it you cannot enter Indonesia. If you haven't been vaccinated, do so at least 10 days before departure at a designated yellow fever vaccination centre.

  2. Pre-purchase eVOA online (strongly recommended)

Go to evisa.imigrasi.go.id at least 1–3 days before travel. Create an account, fill in your passport details, upload a passport photo and bio-data page scan, add your onward ticket details, and pay IDR 500,000 (~USD 29). You'll receive a QR code by email within 1–3 days.

  3. Complete the All Indonesia arrival declaration

Go to allindonesia.imigrasi.go.id up to 3 days before arrival and complete the free arrival declaration (replaces the paper landing card). Save or print the QR code generated. This is mandatory at all Indonesian ports of entry since October 2025.

  4. If arriving at Bali: pay Bali Tourism Levy

Bali charges a separate IDR 150,000 (~USD 9) tourism levy for all international arrivals at Ngurah Rai airport. You can pre-pay at lovebali.baliprov.go.id or pay at the levy counter at the airport before immigration.

  5. At immigration: eVOA lane or VOA counter

If you pre-purchased eVOA: proceed to the eVOA lane and scan your QR code. If not: queue at the Visa on Arrival counter, pay IDR 500,000 in cash or by card, and receive your stamp. Present your yellow fever certificate and All Indonesia QR code to the immigration officer.

  6. Extend if needed (before day 30)

To extend for an additional 30 days, visit the nearest immigration office (Kantor Imigrasi) before your current visa expires. Since May 2025, in-person biometrics (fingerprints + photo) are mandatory for extension. Bring your passport, extension fee (IDR 500,000), and accommodation proof. Do not overstay — fines are IDR 1,000,000 (~USD 57) per day plus possible deportation and entry ban.

Required Documents

  • Valid Kenyan passport (6+ months validity, 2 blank pages) Must be valid for at least 6 months from your arrival date in Indonesia. Minimum 2 blank pages for immigration stamps.
  • Yellow Fever vaccination certificate (MANDATORY) CRITICAL: Kenya is classified as a yellow fever endemic country. Indonesia requires proof of yellow fever vaccination for all travellers aged 9 months+ arriving from Kenya. Certificate must be the official ICVP (yellow booklet / carte jaune). Valid for life. Without this, you can be quarantined for up to 6 days or refused entry. Get vaccinated at least 10 days before travel if you haven't before.
  • Return or onward ticket out of Indonesia Required to show at immigration. You must demonstrate you plan to leave Indonesia before your visa expires.
  • All Indonesia arrival declaration (mandatory since Oct 2025) Complete the free arrival declaration at allindonesia.imigrasi.go.id up to 3 days before arrival. Combines customs, health, and immigration declarations. Mandatory at all ports of entry. Save the QR code generated.
  • eVOA approval QR code (if pre-purchased) Print or save on phone. Present at the eVOA immigration lane. If not pre-purchased, go to the Visa on Arrival counter and pay there.

Recommended (Optional)

  • Accommodation booking or host invitation Hotel bookings or a host's invitation letter may be requested by immigration. Not always checked but good to have.
  • Proof of sufficient funds USD 1,000 equivalent recommended. Bank statement, bank card, or cash. Not always checked but can be requested.

Health Requirements

⚠️ Yellow Fever Certificate required. MANDATORY. Kenya is a yellow fever endemic country. Indonesia requires a valid International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis (ICVP/yellow booklet) for travellers from Kenya. Applies to all travellers aged 9 months and over. The certificate is valid for life (since July 2016 — no re-vaccination required based on certificate age). Must become valid 10 days after first-time vaccination. Failure to present the certificate can result in 6 days quarantine or refusal of entry.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can Kenyans get a visa on arrival for Indonesia (Bali)?
Yes — Kenyan passport holders are eligible for Indonesia Visa on Arrival (VOA). Pay IDR 500,000 (~USD 29 / ~KES 3,650) at the airport counter, or pre-purchase the eVOA online at evisa.imigrasi.go.id before travel to skip the queue. The VOA grants 30 days, extendable once for another 30 days.
Do Kenyans need a yellow fever certificate for Indonesia?
Yes — this is mandatory. Kenya is classified as a yellow fever endemic country, and Indonesia requires proof of yellow fever vaccination (ICVP certificate / yellow booklet) for all travellers from Kenya aged 9 months and over. Without the certificate, you can be quarantined for up to 6 days or refused entry. If you haven't been vaccinated, do so at least 10 days before travel.
What is the eVOA and how does it differ from VOA at the airport?
The eVOA (electronic Visa on Arrival) is the same visa pre-purchased online at evisa.imigrasi.go.id before your flight. Same cost (IDR 500,000), same 30 days. The key advantage: eVOA holders use a faster dedicated lane at immigration, avoiding queues that can be 60–90 minutes at Bali (Ngurah Rai) during peak season. Apply 1–3 days before travel.
What is the Bali Tourism Levy and does it apply to Kenyans?
Yes — if you arrive at Ngurah Rai (Bali) airport, Indonesia charges a separate Bali Tourism Levy of IDR 150,000 (~USD 9) per person. This is separate from the VOA fee and applies to all international visitors. You can pre-pay at lovebali.baliprov.go.id or pay at the levy counter at the airport. It does NOT apply at Jakarta, Surabaya, or other airports.
Can Kenyans extend their Indonesia VOA beyond 30 days?
Yes, once, for an additional 30 days (60 days total). Visit the local immigration office (Kantor Imigrasi) before your 30-day visa expires — do not wait until the last day. Since May 2025, extensions require in-person biometrics (fingerprints + photo). The extension fee is IDR 500,000 (~USD 29). Overstaying costs IDR 1,000,000 per day plus possible deportation.
