Uganda declared an Ebola outbreak on 15 May 2026 after cases were imported from the DR Congo, and several countries introduced precautionary entry restrictions on arrivals from Uganda — the UAE suspended visas for arrivals from Uganda, the DR Congo and South Sudan from 6 June 2026. Uganda declared the outbreak contained on 5 July 2026 and asked for the restrictions to be lifted. Requirements on this route may have changed since we last checked, and some states are reviewing their rules week by week.

  2. Upload all supporting documents

    Upload your passport scan, digital photo, 6 months bank statements, employment letter, cover letter (purpose of visit), and accommodation proof. PDF format is preferred. Ensure every document is clear and complete.

  3. Pay fees online

    Pay the TRV fee (CAD $100 / ~273,800 UGX) and biometrics fee (CAD $85 / ~233,100 UGX) online. Total: CAD $185 (~506,900 UGX). Both are non-refundable regardless of outcome.

  4. Attend VFS Global Kampala for biometrics

    After submitting your online application, IRCC will send a biometrics instruction letter. Book and attend a biometrics appointment at VFS Global Kampala. Bring your passport and biometrics letter. Fingerprints and photo are taken.

  5. Wait for a decision (8–12 weeks typical)

    IRCC processes your application after biometrics are submitted. Ugandan applications typically take 8–12 weeks — longer than some other African countries. Check your IRCC account for updates. Do not book non-refundable flights until your visa is approved.

Sudden lump-sum deposits are a red flag. Use a reputable Ugandan bank (Stanbic, DFCU, Centenary, Absa Uganda, Standard Chartered).
  • Employment letter on company letterhead Must state your position, salary, start date, and approved leave with a confirmed return-to-work date. Critical for demonstrating ties to Uganda.
  • Proof of income 3–6 months of payslips. Self-employed: URSB certificate of incorporation, audited business accounts, and 6 months business bank statements.
  • Letter explaining purpose of visit A detailed cover letter explaining your trip purpose, itinerary, accommodation, and why you will return to Uganda. This is one of the most important documents — do not skip it.
  • Prior travel history (if any) Copies of all previous passports with international stamps. Prior US, UK, or Schengen visas significantly improve approval chances.

  • Officer not satisfied you will leave at the end of the stay

    The central test for a temporary resident visa. Refusal letters cite it more than any other ground, usually alongside family ties or employment.

    Fix: Document employment with approved leave, property, and dependants remaining at home. A detailed, funded itinerary supports rather than replaces this.

  • Financial capacity not demonstrated

    IRCC assesses whether you can fund the trip without working. Statements are read across months.

    Fix: Several months of account activity plus proof of income, and a documented sponsor if someone else is paying.

  • Biometrics not completed

    The application does not progress until biometrics are given at a visa application centre, and the instruction letter has a deadline.
