France uses CAPAGO — not TLScontact or VFS Global — as its exclusive visa application centre provider in South Africa. Since September 2024, all France visa decisions are centralised at the Consulate General in Johannesburg, even if you submit in Cape Town or Durban. The fee is the same €90 Schengen C visa as Germany, Italy, and all other Schengen states.

Insider Tips
Apply at CAPAGO France if France is your primary destination or first point of entry. If spending more days in another Schengen country, apply at that country's VAC instead — a German, Italian, or Spanish Schengen visa also allows entry into France.
Go to france-visas.gouv.fr and complete the online form, then print and sign it. All fields must be filled — write 'N/A' where not applicable.
Buy travel insurance with a minimum of €30,000 medical coverage for all Schengen countries, valid for your entire trip. This is mandatory and must be in place before you apply.
Collect your bank statements (3 months), employment letter, return flight itinerary, hotel bookings, two passport photos, and insurance certificate.
Go to visa-fr-za.capago.eu/booking and choose Johannesburg, Cape Town, or Durban. Book early — slots fill several weeks ahead during peak season (June–August, December).
Attend your appointment with all documents. Pay the €90 Schengen visa fee and the €31 CAPAGO service fee (collected in ZAR). Biometrics (fingerprints + photo) are taken.
Track at visa-fr-za.capago.eu/tracking. Standard processing is 15 calendar days. Collect your passport at CAPAGO or use the optional PostNet delivery service (ZAR 220).
France rejected 14% of applications. Avoid these mistakes:
No Schengen travel insurance (minimum €30,000 coverage) results in automatic rejection.
Fix: Buy insurance before applying. Confirm the certificate explicitly covers all Schengen countries.
Low or inconsistent bank balances relative to planned stay duration.
Fix: Submit 3–6 months of statements. Add payslips and an employment letter confirming salary.
