Turkey is one of the most accessible destinations for South Africans β a $12 e-visa completed online in minutes. Istanbul is a world-class city connecting Europe and Asia, with a rich history, incredible food, and good value for the ZAR. The 30-day stay is enough for most trips.

Insider Tips
Visit the official Turkish e-visa portal at evisa.gov.tr. Select 'Apply' and choose South Africa as your nationality.
Enter your passport number, expiry date, and personal details exactly as they appear on your South African passport. No document uploads required.
Enter your intended entry date. The e-visa is valid for 180 days from the date you specify, for a single stay of up to 30 days.
Pay the mandatory $12 travel insurance fee by Visa or Mastercard. This is the only cost for South Africans β the visa grant itself is free.
Your e-visa is issued almost immediately after payment. Download and save the PDF to your phone or print it. Present it at Turkish immigration.
TΓΌrkiye's e-visa covers 48 countries. Applying from outside that list produces nothing usable, and the money paid to third-party sites is not recoverable.
Fix: Confirm eligibility at evisa.gov.tr before paying anything. If your nationality is not listed, the consular route is the only one.
The e-visa is tied to the passport number entered. Renewing the passport after approval invalidates it.
Fix: Six months of validity beyond the stay, and do not renew between approval and travel.
The e-visa is issued automatically but entry still requires a return ticket, accommodation and funds.
Fix: Carry all three β the e-visa is permission to travel, not a guarantee of admission.
No published rejection rate. TΓΌrkiye publishes no visa refusal statistics by applicant nationality. Checked August 2026.
