Mozambique's eVisa portal does not accept Nigerian passports and directs Nigerians to the nearest embassy. Ask the mission that covers Nigeria for its application form, fee, document list and whether you must appear in person.
Use a NAFDAC-approved centre in Lagos or Abuja. The certificate must be at least 10 days old when you travel.
Submit passport, form, photos, return ticket, accommodation and bank statements. Allow at least three weeks — processing times are not published.
Ethiopian Airlines flies Lagos (LOS) → Addis Ababa (ADD) → Maputo (MPM); you can also connect through Johannesburg. Airlines check the visa and the yellow card at check-in.

Mozambique requires a valid International Certificate of Vaccination from travellers arriving from endemic countries including Nigeria. Certificate must be at least 10 days old. Older guides — this page included until October 2026 — describe Mozambique as open to this passport without an embassy visa. The costliest failure is a refused boarding, not a refusal letter.
Fix: Get the visa from the mission before booking non-refundable travel, and check that any guide you follow names your passport specifically.
Consular officers read the itinerary against the bookings. Accommodation that does not cover the stay, or dates that do not match the flights, undercuts the application.
Fix: Confirmed accommodation for every night, a return ticket on the same dates and a short cover letter stating purpose and who is paying.
Applicants must show they can fund the stay. A single large deposit shortly before applying reads as arranged for the application.
Fix: Three months of ordinary account activity, proof of income, and documents for any sponsor.

Mozambique bars Nigerian passports from its eVisa portal
Mozambique's eVisa platform, launched on 11 February 2026, lists six nationalities — Pakistan, Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Nepal and Somalia — that are not allowed to apply through the portal and must request a visa at the nearest embassy. This page described a USD 50 visa on arrival or e-visa for Nigerians until October 2026; that was wrong.
