Entry rules for travellers from Uganda are changing — verify before you fly

Uganda declared an Ebola outbreak on 15 May 2026 after cases were imported from the DR Congo, and several countries introduced precautionary entry restrictions on arrivals from Uganda — the UAE suspended visas for arrivals from Uganda, the DR Congo and South Sudan from 6 June 2026. Uganda declared the outbreak contained on 5 July 2026 and asked for the restrictions to be lifted. Requirements on this route may have changed since we last checked, and some states are reviewing their rules week by week.

Last checked July 2026 — rules on this route can change at short notice, so confirm with your airline and the destination's immigration authority before you book or fly.

Poland — Warsaw, Kraków, Wrocław, Gdańsk — offers some of Europe's most affordable travel with excellent heritage sites and cuisine. A Schengen visa covers all 27 member states. Poland has no embassy in Uganda — apply via VFS Kampala or at the Polish Embassy in Nairobi.

Key Warnings

  • Poland has no embassy in Uganda. Confirm via vfsglobal.com/poland/uganda whether VFS Global Kampala handles Poland applications. If not, you must travel to the Polish Embassy in Nairobi.
  • Schengen travel insurance and yellow fever certificate are both mandatory.
  • If your primary reason to visit Europe is not specifically Poland, applying for a Germany or France Schengen visa from Uganda (through established VFS streams) and then visiting Poland may be easier.

Insider Tips

  • Poland is one of Europe's most affordable Schengen destinations — Warsaw and Kraków are significantly cheaper than Paris, London, or Amsterdam for accommodation and dining.
  • Auschwitz Memorial near Kraków is one of the most visited historical sites in Europe. If this is your goal, a Poland-specific application makes sense.
  • A Poland Schengen visa covers all of Central and Eastern Europe — Czech Republic, Austria, Slovakia — on the same trip.

Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Confirm application route

Go to vfsglobal.com/poland/uganda to check if VFS Kampala handles Poland applications. If not, you'll need to apply at the Polish Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya.

  2. Get yellow fever vaccination (if not vaccinated)

Visit UVRI Entebbe or Mulago Hospital. Yellow card activates 10 days after vaccination.

  3. Purchase Schengen travel insurance

Buy insurance covering all Schengen countries, minimum EUR 30,000 medical coverage.

  4. Complete the Schengen application form and gather documents

Bank statements, employment letter, return flight, hotel bookings, photos, insurance certificate, yellow fever card.

  5. Submit at VFS Kampala or Polish Embassy Nairobi

Attend appointment, pay EUR 90 visa fee + service fee. Biometrics collected.

  6. Wait for decision (5–20 working days)

Processing may take longer than other Schengen countries due to routing. Collect passport once notified.

Why Applications Get Rejected

Poland rejected 36.3% of applications. Avoid these mistakes:

  • Purpose and conditions of stay not established

Article 32 of the Visa Code lets a consulate refuse where the purpose and conditions of the intended stay are not justified. In practice this is cited when the itinerary, the bookings and the stated reason do not describe the same trip.

Fix: Make the cover letter, flight dates, accommodation and itinerary agree with each other. Inconsistency between them is read as the purpose being unproven.

  • Means of subsistence not shown

Applicants must show sufficient means for the stay and the return journey. Consulates read bank statements across months, not the balance on the day of application.

Fix: Three to six months of statements showing ordinary activity, plus proof of income. A large deposit shortly before applying has the opposite of the intended effect.

  • Intention to leave before the visa expires not established

The most-used box on the refusal grid. It turns on ties — employment, property, dependants, study — rather than on anything about the trip itself.

Fix: Employer letter naming approved leave and a return date, property or business documents, and evidence of family responsibilities at home.

36.3% rejection rate — European Commission (DG HOME) visa statistics for consulates, 2025 — all-Schengen rate for applications lodged in Uganda (20,691 applications); Polish authorities run no visa-issuing consulate in Uganda

Frequently Asked Questions

Do Ugandans need a visa for Poland?
Yes. Ugandan passport holders require a Schengen C visa for Poland. Poland has no embassy in Uganda — apply through VFS Global Kampala (check vfsglobal.com/poland/uganda) or at the Polish Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya. Visa fee EUR 90 (~UGX 392,000). Yellow fever certificate and Schengen travel insurance are mandatory.
Can I visit Poland with a Germany Schengen visa?
Yes — any valid Schengen C visa allows entry to all 27 Schengen countries, including Poland. If applying for a Poland-specific Schengen visa is complex from Uganda, applying for Germany or France (which have established VFS Kampala operations) gives the same access to Poland.
