Uganda declared an Ebola outbreak on 15 May 2026 after cases were imported from the DR Congo, and several countries introduced precautionary entry restrictions on arrivals from Uganda — the UAE suspended visas for arrivals from Uganda, the DR Congo and South Sudan from 6 June 2026. Uganda declared the outbreak contained on 5 July 2026 and asked for the restrictions to be lifted. Requirements on this route may have changed since we last checked, and some states are reviewing their rules week by week.

  • The Akodessewa Fetish Market in Lomé is the world's largest voodoo market — a sprawling marketplace of animal skulls, dried herbs, and traditional medicine components used in voodoo rituals. Deeply fascinating and surprisingly photogenic with permission. Not for the faint-hearted but culturally unique.
  • Kpalimé in the Plateaux Region (120km north of Lomé) has green mountains, waterfalls (Aklowa Falls), and butterfly farms. A complete contrast to the coastal lowlands — noticeably cooler and lush.
  • Togo's position between Ghana (west) and Benin (east) makes it an ideal multi-country West Africa trip. Lomé to Cotonou (Benin) is 2 hours by shared taxi (bush taxi). Lomé to Accra (Ghana) is 3 hours. All three countries have the same e-visa format.

    UVRI Entebbe or Mulago Hospital. Yellow card at least 10 days old. Checked at Lomé Airport on arrival.

  2. Apply e-visa at evisa.gouv.tg

    Upload passport, photo, YF certificate. Pay USD 50 (~UGX 185,000) by card. 48–72 hour approval. Print e-visa letter.

  3. Fly Entebbe to Lomé via Addis Ababa

    Ethiopian Airlines: Entebbe (EBB) → Addis Ababa (ADD) → Lomé Gnassingbé Eyadéma (LFW). Total: ~8–10 hours.

  4. Explore Togo — and consider Benin and Ghana next door

    Lomé (Grand Marché, Cathedral), Kpalimé and waterfalls, Togoville (historic village on Lake Togo), Akodessewa Fetish Market (world's largest voodoo market). Day trips to Benin or Ghana are popular.
